Deputy Chief Minister, Chandrakant Kavlekar said that Government will strive hard to bring innovation in Agriculture Sector, contributing towards prosperity of the farmers in the State. Kavlekar was speaking on the occasion of Farmers Mela organised by Directorate of Agriculture at Shirant, Deulmoll Quepem today.
Dy. CM Kavlekar who also holds the Agriculture portfolio stated that, Directorate of Agriculture is tirelessly working towards streamlining the Schemes meant for farmers to reach out to the beneficiaries at a larger scale. He informed that Agriculture Department intends to simplify the subsidies based Schemes for Purchase of Agriculture Machinery/equipments for the benefit of farmers.
Kavlekar expressed satisfaction over the Farmers Mela organized for farmers from Quepem taluka apprising the farmers of remote village and also municipality areas of latest agricultural techniques.
Director, Agriculture Nevil Alfonso informing the new initiatives executed by the Department to support farmers in greater scale urged the farmers to take the benefit of the Farmers Mela and increase income from the agricultural cultivation.
Zonal Agriculture Officer, Quepem, Sandesh Raut Dessai; Zilla Panchayat Member from Barsem Khushali Velip and Sapanch, Avedem Panchayat Alelluia Alfonso; Chairman of Quepem Municipal Council Dayesh Naik spoke on the occasion.
The Farmers Mela was specially organised to spread awareness about modern techniques in agriculture cultivation and various schemes introduced by Agriculture Department to foster and promote Agricultural produce. The Mela also coincided with a campaign on Aatma Nirbhar Bharat and Swayampoorna Goa wherein farmers were informed about various support business opportunities based on agriculture such as honey bee farming, goods and decorative items preparation from coconut tree.
On the occasion farmers were informed about soil sampling and soil testing, and Nutrients Management of various crops.
Asst. Soil Chemist, Swapnil Sukthankar delivered lecture on soil testing parameters, Dy. Project Director ATMA South-Goa Shivram Naik Gaonkar delivered lecture on Integrated Nutrient Management of Various Crops. Girish Kenkre from Krishi Vignyan Kendra South Goa made a presentation on Organic Farming and Bio Pesticides while Asst.Agriculture Officer Smt. Galganic D`souza made a presentation on various Schemes initiated by Agriculture Department for the Farmers.
